What is AI horse gait analysis?
It means using software to follow how a horse moves through a video — the rhythm of the gait, the length and consistency of the stride, and how both change through a session. Canter Critic is being built to apply that to schooling footage as a training tool, alongside what it observes about the rider. It is a different thing from the gait analysis a vet uses to assess soundness, and it is not a substitute for it.
Is Canter Critic available yet?
Not yet. It is still in development. We’ll offer early access gradually so we can work closely with the first riders who use it.
When will the app be available?
Release on the App Store and Google Play is planned for August 2026. Early-access members will hear first, and we will open access gradually so we can work closely with the first riders using it.
Will it analyse both horse and rider?
That’s the intention. Canter Critic is being designed to review the rider, the horse and the movement between them, rather than scoring the rider alone.
Does it replace an instructor?
No. It is intended as an additional perspective and a review tool. It should make the conversation with your instructor more useful, not replace it.
Can it diagnose lameness?
No. Canter Critic is not a veterinary diagnostic tool and must not be used as one. If you have any concern about your horse’s soundness, speak to your vet.
What kind of footage will it need?
Initially, clear landscape footage filmed from the side of the arena, with the whole horse and rider visible throughout.
Will my videos be used for training?
You will be given a clear, separate choice. Processing your footage to produce the review you asked for is one thing; allowing selected footage to help improve the product is another, and the two will never be bundled together. Final wording will be published before launch.
